New Year - Mamavation Monday

I've lost my gym. More importantly, my son lost his preschool, but for this post, I will dwell on the fact that I have no gym. The community center where my son goes to preschool and I work out, closed on December 31. They gave us 3 weeks notice, which sucks, but it is what it is.

I really need to get my tushie back to working out. With the new preschool, the boy will be going to school 5x a week for 3 hours. I have the Your Shape Fitness Evolved for the XBox Kinect. I haven't tried it yet. That is only list for this week. My friend has P90X and we talked about doing it once or twice a week at her house. Eventually, I know I'll have to find a gym, but they are always so crowded in January and February. In a few months, I'll be able to go for a run or bike ride during school. I miss getting on my bike and feeling free. Every winter, I always ask myself why I did I leave California for New York??

For those without a gym membership, what do you for exercise, and when?

Happy New Year!

  1. Oh, yeah! The gyms will be swamped. If you wait it out, you will probably be able to find a better deal anyway. There is a P90x challenge right now on Mamavation. Even if you don't go all out, you could check out the discussions.

I have two little ones, so the gym is out for me. I have a Wii, Wii Fit & EA Sports Active. I also love brisk walking and have the RunKeeper Pro app on my phone for it.

Happy New Year and hope you find some great new exercise solutions!

  2. I just saw the Kinect for the first time this past weekend at my SIL's house and it looks SO cool! I use my Wii with the EAS Active 2 and the 'more workouts' and love it. Honestly, I have a gym membership and work out at home much more often because it better fits my schedule. They key is to find your 'soulmate exercise' and do it whenever/ wherever you can :)

    Good luck this week :)

  3. I use The Y and dvds at home or the Wii. There are tons of work outs online! Check You Tube and Netflix too.

  4. I take walks around my neigborhood when the weather permits, and I work out on wii fit plus, or Easactive, wii sports, or recently I tried out my daughter's Cheerleading wii game.. that was interesting. Today we took a walk, and then tonight I did strength training on wii fit plus. Hopefully you find a new gym soon. My hubby didn't want to pay for a gym membership monthly, so he got me a wii instead.

  5. I also use sparkpeople.com which is free and has TONS of workouts on their website, and you can even track your miles, food intake, calories burned, goals, etc. It's awesome!

  6. I don't have a gym membership, instead I have done the following:

treadmill: I plan on walking it for a certain amount of time until I feel confident to pick up more time, more speed, etc.

workout video: I work out at least 2-3 times a week to a video. This helps as I can hit pause if I need to do so.

walk: There is snow all over the ground but I've decided to walk 1-2 miles a day. Come rain or sleet.

Sounds like you have some good goals and I hear that p90x kicks butt. Good luck!
